Suggestions for Hopscotch

Let's Help Hopscotch

Why?

Hopscotch is a great game loved by many people, and a good way to thank them for having made this fantastic app and for constantly making and publishing videos explaining how to code certain types of games. This way, they're teaching thousands of kids from all over the world how to code their own games: something that until a few years ago was extremely rare for kids of this age. If we give them suggestions regarding how to improve this game, making it more efficient, more fun for us to play with, and maybe actually let and help Hopscotch make profit by organizing school events, giving other kids an opportunity to learn how to code!

Our Suggestions

I personally found my passion for coding after participating to my school's “Hour of Code”. In that case, we used “Scratch”, but then I found out about Hopscotch, and the next day I had already created my profile and made 3 games. Every single kid at my school (about 500 students) had loads of fun coding their first game, and more than half of them now have an account and many games. Therefore, I think that Hopscotch really should be used for the “Hours of Code”, and it should also happen at least 2 two times a year, so that nobody misses it. Why Hopscotch? I think Hopscotch should be used because it is more efficient, it can be used on tablets, and it is fun for people of all age and levels (except who knows how to use HTML).
Even though people who are good at coding find them sort of useless and boring, Hopscotch's videos are really useful. For example, if you want to learn how to make carachters throw objects and you don't understand how to do so, you can just watch the video and try it yourself. There is a problem with that, though: sometimes the videos are too heavy and the app crashes. Other times, the video goes too quickly and you don't understand, or your Wi-Fi connection isn't good enough to load the video. My idea is to make slideshows: this way people can choose to use the slideshows instead of the videos and make the  instructions easier to understand and letting more people follow them. In that case, I think that that the size should be adjustable by hand, and it should also be moved around with your finger; while I was coding my first games, I found it quite annoying that even if I tapped “hide”, I wouldn't be able to see what there was in the bottom right corner! For making it more understandable, the slideshows' slides should include a screenshot of how it should look like with arrows pointing to what you have to do. The steps should be written underneath the picture, explaining everything (why it works like that and how it can be. used on different games) in a simple, understandable but descriptive language.
Many people are getting angry because others are using Hopscotch as if it were a chat. I think I have a solution: Hopscotch should add chats! I think that there should be chats between everybody (either for 2 people, or for a group or public) so that people can chat, ask for help and suggestions for their games and can comment games without having to remix the project. Let's leave space to games and coding, let's separate announcements from new games, let's do this!

Help Hopscotch too!
